Zhang Zhenglang Pizhu Liangzhou Jinwenci Daxi Kaoshi is a publication comprising Zhang Zhenglang’s notes on Guo Moruo’s Liangzhou Jinwenci Daxi Kaoshi during half a century. The current edition of this book is based on Zhang’s manuscript and compiled by later scholars, Zhu Fenghan, etc. As personal comments and records, these notes have a high academic value. However, the current edition has many mistakes in some aspects. This thesis aims to reorganize Zhang’s manuscript and conduct a preliminary study on its academic value. This thesis contains two parts. The first part summarizes the mistakes of the current edition and the value of Zhang’s notes. The mistakes are discussed in eight aspects:1) Contents; 2) Sequence; 3) Classification; 4) Punctuation,5) Comments; 6) Omissions; 7) Problem of dealing with the deleted notes; 8) Wrongly compiling notes not written by Zhang. The value of the notes is summarized as follows: 1) Attaching importance to the earliest correct research and interpretation of the ancient characters; 2) Proposing important interpretations of the meanings of ancient characters; 3) Deciphering ancient characters and history through utilizing literature appropriately;4) Proposing important views on the periodization and dating of bronzes; 5) Identifying fake bronzes. The second part is on the reorganization of the notes. This reorganized version is different from the current one. The modifications against the problems and mistakes of the current edition are conducted in the following aspects: 1) Inputting all texts of Zhang’s notes, and avoiding the missing, redundant, changed and inverted texts; 2) fathoming the connotations of the manuscript and correcting the unreasonable classifications; 3) Classifying the notes based on their locations on head, foot, margin and between lines, then sequencing them according to the content and calligraphy.4) Numbering and indexing the notes.
