A Study About The Modern Industrial And Heritage Consercation In Jinan And Qingdao(1875-1949)

In recent years, due to the speeding up of China’s urbanization and industrial structure adjustment, a lot of old factories are difficult to keep up with the modern urban development. So they move to the outskirts widely,and abandoned factories are facing to be demolished. Among them, many excellent modern factories are also included. As special cultural resources, this type of industrial heritage has a rich meaning,like historical, social, architecture and artistic value. Their protection and utilization play a key role in shaping city characteristics.Since the end of the 19th century, British industrial archaeology appeared, industrial heritage protection work had already started. Then the meeting of FICCIM and the establishment of TICCIH formed a broad consensus about industrial heritage protection in the international field. By contrast, China’s industrial heritage protection started late, many industrial legacies have disappeared in the urban transformation. To save the existing urban industrial heritage has become urgently.Jinan and Qingdao as two major industrial city in Shandong province, they played an important role in modern industrial areas, but because of the different development path of the two urban, differences in industrial heritage have appeared. One of the most significant difference is that Jinan was open voluntarily with strong sense of autonomy, and national industries were outstanding,so national industrial heritages are the most abundant. Qingdao was forced to open port under Germany,so foreign capital was abundant,accordingly its heritage is represented by foreign industry; Secondly,in terms of quantity and quality,Jinan is less than Qingdao. In Qingdao, German’s construction are the best.Jinan’s national industry couldn’t compared with the foreign capital enterprise, so its preservation is not ideal;In the feature of industrial heritage, in Jinan flour industrial heritage are the most prominent and in Qingdao cotton remains are the most; Finally, the heritage protection work in Qingdao was earlier than Jinan, its development are also more perfect.There are many successful cases, such as Tsingtao museum,Qingdao tent city, creative industrial park and so on. Some can even be called the model of industrial heritage protection. Jinan is much less in this respect, started late and developed relatively slow.In view of the many examples of successful urban heritage protection at home and abroad, this paper will discuss from five aspects:I’ll be guided by the theories of industrial heritage, and from Jinan and Qingdao industrial development,analyze the condition and characteristics in the two cities,then try to put forward the protection and utilization measures.Hopefully,all excellent industrial heritage can be remained in our city.
