This thesis is a translation of the first part of The Chinese Transformation of Corporate Culture written by Colin S.C. Hawes. The book was published by Routledge in 2012 and the excerption consists of two chapters. The content examines the Chinese transformation of corporate culture and techniques politically and techniques vehicles for transforming corporate culture. Colin S.C. Hawes tries to reveal the political, social and economical factors behind the enormous current interest in corporate culture in China and how large Chinese firms transform their cultural values under the influence of politics. And Hawes indicates that politics is all-pervading in Chinese society, and business corporations cannot escape its influence. He analyses the official and academic Chinese interpretations of corporate culture and identifies their differences. Colin S.C. Hawes finds that Chinese corporations, including privately controlled corporations, display a strong desire to present themselves as loyal supporters of CCP organizational work within their corporations, which includes embracing the official aims of corporate culture transformation. Yet the CCP also shows that its presence within corporations is still relevant and necessary, and its policies stress that corporate culture transformation should make firms better both socially and economically.This dissertation, a documentary translation text, dwells on the skopos theory from the macro scope, which is included in functional theories from Germany. The translation practice is based on Nord’s translation-oriented text analysis. In the aspect of culture, a source culture-oriented foreignizing translation strategy is adopted to direct the practice. So, as to the difference of the eastern and western ideology, the author’s ideas are conveyed faithfully. In the aspect of language, domesticating translation strategy is used to instruct the language organization, following the target language expressions. As all translation from Chinese sources is the author’s own, back translation is adopted to deal with the translation practice with considering the target language reader.
