Research On The Situation Of Undergraduate Mobile Phone Addiction And Its Relationship With Personality And Coping Style

This research investigate the situation of university students’ mobile phone addiction and its relationship with personality and coping style in order to discover the formation mechanism of university students’ mobile phone addiction, and lead university students use mobile phone scientifically, reduce the negative influences that may be caused by the addiction of mobile phone.In this research, five full-time public universities was chosen randomly from the universities in NanChang, and then one class was separately selected randomly from the four grades of the chosen universities. Totally, eight hundred undergraduates were sampled. The instruments involved in the study include undergraduate mobile phone addiction questionnaire, Qingnian Zhongguo Personality Scale(QZPS) and coping style questionnaire. At last, conclusions were drawn as follows:1) The average mobile phone charge per month of university students is 55.69 yuan, and the time they expend on mobile phone every day is 5.74 hour on average. It reveals that students spend much time and money on the mobile phones.2) The percentage of students’ mobile phone addiction is 4.8%, which means that although university students are addicted by mobile phone to some extent, the tendency is not high.3) Undergraduate mobile phone addiction is affected more apparently by grade than any other factors on demographic variables. Apparently, the mobile phone addiction of freshmen is higher than sophomores and senior students. Besides, junior students’ addiction is higher than senior students.4) Undergraduate mobile phone addiction is affected more by the monthly charge and the time they spend on mobile phone every day on the basic statistics of mobile phone usage variables. On the view of charge, the group who spend more than 90 yuan is higher than those who spend less than 30 yuan, 30 to 50 yuan, 50 to 70 yuan and 70 to 90 yuan. On the view of time, the group who cost more time every day is higher than the less one as a whole.5) Obviously, undergraduate mobile phone addiction has negative correlation with extroversion, kindness, operating style, interpersonal relation and life attitude of personality, but has positive correlation with emotion. Besides, emotionality and interpersonal relation can forecast the change of mobile phone addiction apparently. For specific performance, emotionality has positive forecast to mobile phone addiction apparently, but interpersonal relation has negative forecast.6) Undergraduate mobile phone addiction has apparent negative correlation with coping style. The negative coping dimension of coping style can forecast the change of mobile phone addiction positively.7) Personality and coping style can affect mobile phone addiction directly. Meanwhile, coping style is the intervening variable between personality and mobile phone addiction, and it is expressed in the coping style, which acts as a partial medium between them.
