As a medium-sized dictionary,Modern Chinese Dictionary is of great significance for the learning,standardization and popularization of modern Chinese.With the development and change of the society,the vocabulary is also constantly enriched.Modern Chinese Dictionary has been revising its vocabulary to keep pace with the time,and a certain amount of new words will be added in each revision.In this paper,through comparison,the newly revised words in the seventh edition were found out and were used as corpus to make a more comprehensive description from the perspective of linguistic ontology.This paper mainly consists five parts:The first chapter is the introduction,we summarize the revision history of the dictionary,and discuss the research status,significance,content and method.The second chapter firstly clarifies the scope of new words concerned in this research,which includes new items and some idioms.And then the syllables and lexical distribution of the new words added in the seventh edition are investigated.The third chapter discusses the characteristics of semantic domain distribution and main word formation methods of new words.The semantic meaning of the new words in the seventh edition relates to various fields of social life,and there are many political words or words related to politics.In terms of word formation,the new method includes external borrowing and internal word creation.External borrowing words include dialect words and foreign language borrowing words.Internal word formation mainly includes semantic word formation,grammatical analogy,abbreviated word formation and rhetorical morphology.Chapter four explores the causes and mechanisms why new words emerged.This paper analyzes the causes of new words emerging from the perspectives of social factors,human factors and language factors,and it also studies the mechanism of new words' emerging from the perspective of cognitive linguistics.The last part is the conclusion,which summarizes the full text and points out flaws in the study.
