This report is accomplished based on the pavilion interpreting practice of International Horticultural Exposition 2014 Qingdao from April 24 to 30. To ensure the task quality in the future, the author analyzes the problems in pavilion interpreting practice. The significance of this practice lies in the following three aspects. First, this exposition lasts for only 184 days. Second, this report is based on pavilion interpreting practice. Third, this practice refers to knowledge in marine, history, culture and horticulture. The author hopes that this article can serve as a reference for the research of tourism interpretation in the future.This report covers the following four parts. In the first part, the author mainly describes the Flora Exposition, the features of International Horticultural Exposition 2014 Qingdao, nature and requirements of interpreting, and requirements of client. In the second part, the author reviews the process of interpreting, including the preparation before interpreting, the on-going interpreting and the evaluations after interpreting. In this part, the preparation before interpreting is highlighted, including the selection and analysis of parallel texts, the preparation of terminology, the preparation of interpreting theories, the thematic knowledge preparation, the general information about audience and emergency plans. The third part is the keystone of this report, which refers to analysis on cases on the basis of Skopos Theory, the barriers and problems can be classified into three phases: information reception, information analysis, and information expression. Then the author finds corresponding strategies to solve those barriers. These barriers are as follows: variation of interpreter’s speed, information loss, translation of long and difficult sentences, cultural differences between Chinese and English, and guests’ questions. The conclusions drawn from this interpreting practice are put forward in the last part. Meanwhile the author proposes the inspiration and prospect for the study and work in the future to increase the accumulation of language knowledge, improve the intercultural communicative ability and further acquire knowledge of theories.
