Technical information and cultural information are tough challenges for interpreters during interpreting practice while few interpreting studies have been conducted to solve the above two challenges. Thus, this report attempts to study the strategies to deal with technical and cultural information from the author’s interpreting practice under the framework of Functionalist Skopos Theory. This report, based on the author’s liason interpreting experience for banquets and conferences, tourist commentaries and press interviews during China International Alcoholic Drinks Expo(CIADE) 2014, studies the coping strategies of technical and cultural information in light of Functionalist Skopos Theory and User Expectations.Analysis shows that, in terms of macro strategy, the interpreting of technical and cultural information should follow two principles, namely, user-oriented solution and fidelity to the original speech. In other words, flexible interpreting strategies should be adopted to tailor to the different expectations of professional and common audience under the precondition of fidelity to the original text. In terms of micro strategies, the translation strategies of technical and cultural information consist of preparation before interpretation, context association, confirmation with speaker, transliteration plus explanatory addiction, restructuring, analogy, and reduction to essence. There are five chapters in this paper. Chapter one, serving as the introduction part, briefly introduces about the project and the interpreting tasks implemented by the author. Chapter two introduces the theoretical framework of Functionalist Skopos Theory and User Expectations, their interrelation and the reasons why they are adopted. Chapter three analyses the reasons why technical information and cultural information is challenging for interpreters based on the author’s interpreting practice and reflections. In chapter four, the macro and micro interpreting strategies of technical and cultural information have been discussed with case studies and exemplifications. Chapter five summarizes the report and points out the limitations and implications of the report.
