An Interpreting Practice Report At A Simulated International Electric Exhibition

With the continuous development of the globalization process,political and economic and exchanges between countries all over the world have accelerated.Since its reform and opening up,China has gradually integrated into the world economic system and become one of the most important economies in the world.The economic and trade exchanges between China and foreign countries have become unprecedentedly prosperous.Transnational investment,business visits and discussion between China and foreign countries have become a common thing.In the background of the increasingly frequent economic and trade exchanges between China and other countries in the world,high-quality business interpretation plays a very crucial role in the economic and trade cooperation.Based on the actual practice of a simulated electric exhibition,this paper sorts out the difficulties in the practice of business interpretation and put forward strategies under the guidance of Skopos theory in light of difficulties encountered by business interpreters.Three types of difficulties are first discussed,such as terminology,redundancy,and interruption.Three principles of Skopos theory could help to generate feasible solutions for those difficulties.Interpreters should always keep in mind that business interpreting is an interpreting task with a clear purpose,namely facilitating business communication.All strategies proposed are at the service of this purpose.Strategies based on Skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule are thought to be helpful in business interpreting practice.Omission and inquiry are supposed to achieve coherence in the target language.Paraphrasing,when necessary,is used to make the source text acceptable in the target language conventions.Finally,this paper summarizes the main contents and limitations of this study,and gives suggestions for the future research direction.I hope this paper can provide some reference for business interpretation practice.
