While “Chinese language fever”, “China fever” continues to heat up, all around the world Chinese language learners have reached one hundred million people. In this context, Confucius Institute has become a cultural bridge to Chinese-abroad communication and a cultural tie deepening friendship. In 2004 the first Confucius Institute of the world was set up in Seoul, two years later, 2006 the first Confucius Institute of Italy hold the opening ceremony in the capital Rome. In 2009 also the Confucius Institute of the University of Milan was established.The Author research the Confucius Institute of the University of Milan as main study object, using survey method she carries out a multi-angle investigation, in order to study the planning of teaching, teaching material, teacher resources, cultural activities, teaching problems and several other aspects. At the same time the Author combines her own internship experience at the Confucius Institute, analyses the positive role of the Confucius Institute of the University of Milan in spreading Chinese language, and proposes solutions to problems of the Confucius Institute of the University of Milan in teaching Chinese and Chinese culture.This thesis is composed of eight parts. The first chapter is an introduction, mainly presents contents, purpose of research, research methods of this thesis and a summary of previous studies. The second chapter provides an overview of Italian Confucius Institutes and Confucius Institute of the University of Milan. The third chapter is focused on the analysis of Chinese teaching situation of Confucius Institute of the University of Milan, including Chinese language courses situation and the syllabus of main courses. The fourth chapter focuses on the situation of teaching materials in use at Confucius Institute of the University of Milan and specifically it analyzes the usage of local Chinese teaching materials. The fifth chapter focuses on investigation and analysis of the situation of Chinese language teachers. The sixth chapter is focused on the investigation and analysis of cultural activities of Confucius Institute of the University of Milan. The seventh chapter put forward Chinese teaching problems of Confucius Institute of the University of Milan and proposes related solutions. The eighth chapter is the conclusion, containing a summary of main contents of this thesis and looking forward into the future situation of Chinese language teaching and propagation.In Milan and surrounding areas Confucius Institute, in spreading Chinese language and culture and in promoting relationship between Italy and China, plays an important role. There is still a long way to go, in the next few years Chinese language teaching needs a faster and long-term development. Through this analysis of the current situation of Confucius Institute of the University of Milan I hope to provide some suggestions for methods and strategies to promote Chinese language and Chinese culture.
