Linyi dialect belongs to the Middle Mandarin of Fenhe section dialects. The numerous characters of Fenhe section dialects have attracted a lot of dialiectologists.Among prolific papers on dialects, few are concentrating on the tones of Linyi dialect.What’s more, most papers are referring to the conventional phonetics by ear and hand,which result in blank in experimental phonetics. Therefore, this dissertation will focus on the monosyllabic tone and double tone with the help of Praat to conclude the specific characters of Linyi Dialect. The approaches of phonetic experiment and statistical analysis are applied to this research. There are five parts as follows:Part one: Introduction. In this part, the author will introduce specifically in Linyi’s geography, weather, population and historical development. Besides, there are also some information on the Linyi dialect ownership quetion, the current situation of Linyi Dialect, phonically experimental situation about Shanxi Province and the phonetic system of Linyi Dialect.Part two: Research Approaches. This part will demonstrate the approaches and research subject clearly, including the according process, methods of choicing the matching pronunciation partners and samples and establishing the pronunciation data base.Part three: Experimental Research on the Monosyllabic Tone. From two perspectives of pitch and length, this analysis includes sound pattern of monosyllabic,distribution of four tones, and data analysis according to the gender. Apart from this,there are futher studies on absolute length, relative length, and the length pattern. All of these will contribute to final compare between traditional dialect conclusion and this new result.Part four: Experimental Research on the Double Tone. Similarly, this analysis will research in two perspectives of pitch and length. Different from the before, this analysis includes tone combination and tonal varity, which will result in researching on double tone modification pattern. Meanwhile, the writer will observe the length pattern and compare the difference between previous conclusion and the new result.Part five: Conclusion. Based on the premier analysis, this part will conclude these researches. As well, the author honestly airs drawbacks in this dissertation and puts forward some advice in the future research.
