Lexical Studies On He Guan Zi

He Guan Zi is an important book of Huang-Lao school in the pre-Qin dynasty, its language quite has the characteristic of ancient Chinese. Its value of documents,thoughts, and literature has gained extensive attention, but the study from the perspective of linguistics is just staying in noting on annotations, variants and individual words, lacking the systematic study of the whole book’s language and vocabulary. Therefore we chose the He Guan Zi as the research object, analyze the phenomenon of its vocabulary.This paper focuses on the study of He Guan Zi’s vocabulary, consists of six parts.The first part is the introduction: in this part, we briefly stated this book and the research review, the significance of the selected topic, the research methods, the key point, the difficult point and the innovation point.In the second part, we study on He Guan Zi’s monosyllabic words: we count its monosyllabic words totally, depending on the quality and the meaning of its monosyllabic words, at the same time we try to summarize its characteristics.The third part is the study on He Guan Zi’s polysyllabic words: First is to determine the definition of a polysyllabic word, according to Mr. Ma Zhen’s five criteria, we count He Guan Zi’s polysyllabic words totally, then we point out features of He Guan Zi’s polysyllabic words through counting, classifying and calculating the proportion of various types of disyllabic words.In the fourth part, we see the additions and corrections of Grand Chinese dictionary from the He Guan Zi: we supplement Grand Chinese dictionary’s entry,senses, documentary evidences through sorting out He Guan Zi’s polysyllabic words,at the same time we make the comparison.The fifth part is conclusion, we make a brief overview of the contents of this article, and pointing out the orientation of the follow-up study on He Guan Zi’s vocabulary.
