With the rapid advance of the continuous development of China’s society, economy and city, public art more and more attention and emphasis, in public art, and the most remarkable characteristic of other kinds of art is its "public participation", and most can reflect the characteristics, so this paper analysis with the deeper research on the connotation and ways of participation in the process of the realization of public art, in order to "the basic connotation of" public art as a point of the research of the basic work.Participation is divided into three different levels in the formation process of Public Art: 1, public art project planning process in the participation; 2, the creation of public art in the process of social interaction involved in space; 3, after the complete public art works and audience. Analysis of the characteristics of the existing domestic and foreign public works of art for public participation, summarize the relationship between artist, participation in the course of the works and the participants.This thesis consists of five chapters:The part of review of the purpose and significance of research, including the research status at home and abroad, and cutting‐edge content.The first chapter clarifies the importance of participation in public art and it makes public art and other traditional art what changes happen.The second chapter analyzes the first participation(i.e., to participate in the project planning process) the meanings and characteristics of.The third chapter to the second kinds of participation(i.e. creation and participation in the process of making) analyzed from participants, artists and works perspective and emphasizes on the significance of participant works.The fourth chapter explains third kinds of participation(i.e., after the completion of the work of the interaction) on the meaning of the works.The fifth chapter combs the domestic status of the development of public art in the public participation.
