“What”, the interrogative pronoun in Thai and Chinese, is the most important form in interrogative sentence. There are various usages of “What” in interrogative sentence. “What” can use for asking about people, objects, places, time, reasons, types, purposes, forms, and etc. Accordingly, this thesis divided into three parts: semantic, syntactic, and usage to compare, contrast and analyze the main point of using “What” in Thai and Chinese study.In this thesis, I have investigated and analyzed from previous thesis about interrogative sentence by using the word “What” in Thai and Chinese. This thesis classifies by Thai and Chinese asking, for example: asking about people, things or objects, places, and etc. The thesis uses the error countermeasure test to survey Thai students who is studying in the main land of China. The purpose of using the survey test is to explore that how Thai students understand the usage of “What” in interrogative sentences, to analyze their mistakes of using “What” and find the solutions for prevent Thai students to use “What” in error sentences.
