Lu Xun’s Movie Life And His "New" Story

In the 1930’s of Shanghai, watching movies was the main form of entertainment, Lu Xun was no exception.In his last ten years, he watched over one hundred movies,and leaved precious comments.In the opening of the paper,it is showed the changes in people’s living habits and ways of thinking under the influence of movie industry.The next part explains why he loved watching movies from the time and the individual factors,combed his understanding of movies from the selection criteria and the point of view.All of these is based on the movies he watched.Lu Xun was different from ordinary people in watching movies.He attached great importance to the ideological content,associating with the social reality and national spirit,not for entertainment.He also discovered the social education significance of movies.The second chapter focuses on Lu Xun’s thinking of people.First,thinking of children.He encouraged children to watch cartoons, which he thought is good for one’s body and mind.Second,thinking of youth.He thought that some movies,like adventure movies,was good for developing youth’s horizon and shaping their personality. Last,thinking of himself.He analyzed society and reflected himself through several movie events.I think these practice reflect Lu Xun’s responsibility.As an independent intellectual,Lu Xun had a rational thinking on the art of movie.He prospectively translated foreign movie theory books,which helped people to understand this new art.And we could also used the movie technique to analysis his novels,such as <New Stories>.Due to one’s experience and creative purpose, Lu Xun had a different artistic choice.Chinese Neo-sensationalism was deeply influenced from artistic skills,but unfortunately,its novels fell into boring stories and single characters. When it comes to the left-wing writers,a literary group who shot numbers of conforms to meet the demand of era and people,their efforts achieved good publicity effect.Inevitably,the artistic independence of movie cannot be guaranteed because of the many political factors.Since Lu Xun clearly recognized the essence of movie,he not blindly did literary practice with the film technique,nor to write the script.That is to say,He always maintained a sober rationality of art and independent choice of art.In conclusion, this article opens a new angle for us to study Lu Xun,also makes the man more life and more three-dimensional.At the same time,the personal life of ordinary phenomenon reflects intellectuals’ election and thought transformation when they facing new things. Also, it shows for us the portraits of intellectuals in 1930’s.
