A Sociolinguistic Study Of Variationin Nancheng Dialect

Nancheng county, located in easthern Jiangxi province,One of the birthplace of linchuan culture,belongs to fuguang of Gan dialect.This paper,focusing on the Nancheng dialect, investigating and studying Nancheng dialect phonetic variation and analyze its features,correlate social factors, by using the method of Sociolinguistics and dialectology.This paper determined variants and variables of Nancheng dialect,by comparison between Old Nancheng dialect and New Nancheng dialect.In 13 community of Nanchang county,based on the《Nancheng dialect phonetic variant survey glossary》and 《 Nancheng county language life brief questionnaire 》 for Sociolinguistics sampling survey in 13 communities of Nancheng county, divided into four ages:Youth group, Youth group,Middle-aged group,senior group,to get multi-level corpus.Based on multi-level corpus,to preliminary analyse language background,language choice and language attitude of residents in Nancheng,to descripte Nancheng dialect phonetic variation and predict the direction of dialect phonetic variation.By survey and analyse the characteristics of phonetic variation,the direction of dialect phonetic variation is closing to Mandarin in under the infunence of Mandarin.language choice and language attitude were determined direction of dialect phonetic variation.Language attitude of the residents in Nancheng have bidirectional identity between Nancheng dialect and Mandarin,but more and more people use Mandarin because of language prestige.Combined with the investigation, we observed the Nancheng dialect phonetic variation was significantly related to the social factors that age and degree of education、occupation, but wasn’t related to gender. less the age, the higher the proportion of keeping dialect pronunciation of the new school.higher education level, the higher the new dialect pronunciation.Mental ability workers and service personnel choosed more new dialect variants.
