A Report On C-E Translation Of Glad To See Xiangtan Changing With Each Passing Day

Since the 21 st century, the news media has been an indispensable part of human life, becoming an important way of the world culture dissemination and information exchange. Journalistic English is one of the most common practical styles in English whose lexical range is extensive and various. Its subjects involve social affairs,economic development, diplomatic struggle, cultural and sporting events as well as religion, law, family and many other aspects, making the specific language readers learn news collected and reported in other languages. Thereby helping readers to expand visual-aural range, broaden their access to information, improve their ability of analysis, judgment and problem-solving and increase their knowledge and experiences, putting them in a more advantageous position in society. News translation can also promote the communication between different countries, making people around the world know the current events, better participate in the management of country and society, more effectively exercise their rights as masters of their homelands and fulfill self-determination tasks.This paper is a translation report on Glad to see Xiangtan changing with each passing day whose author is Li Guang-hua,the assistant chief editor of Hunan daily,senior reporter, master tutor of Xiangtan university. This Chinese-to-English translation project covers the policies and spirits in Xiangtan Zhaoshan Model District 、 Xiangtan Jiuhua demonstration zone and Xiangtan’s tourism industry,promoting the culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics.As the news text is professional,the translator has chosen Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory as a guide. In the process of translation, the translator has consulted many professional books on news, thought over how to translate the quote and literary words so as to ensure its professionalism and naturalness.In terms of the whole structure, this paper is divided into five chapters. Chapter 1makes a brief introduction about the background and significance of translation project with the current situation of Xiangtan news translation. Chapter 2 introduces the original author and the text concisely. Chapter 3 lists the translation processes from two aspects of preparation work and translation execution. Chapter 4 is the key point of the whole paper, and it mainly discusses translation solutions about proper nouns,long sentence with bamboo-like structure,the titles,the passages under theguidance of communicative translation theory. Chapter 5 is the conclusion of the full text; it summarizes the fruitful gains achieved by the author through this translation project on one hand, and the objective deficiencies in translation process on the other.
