“Ne”in Primary Chinese Textbooks

Modern Chinese mainly uses function words and word order as grammatical means. So function words plays an important role in Modern Chinese. And modal word composes an important part of modern Chinese because of high frequency use and wide range of functions. Obviously, modal word is really important in modern Chinese. It’s also the same reason which makes modal word not only an important part in teaching Chinese as a second language, but also a weak link. Meanwhile,“ne” is a typical one among so many modal words. Therefore, we must do a systematic research on the “ne” in modern Chinese and the modal word of teaching Chinese as a second language to achieve the ideal effect of teaching Chinese as a second language.In this essay, firstly we will carry on a simple arrangement and review of the research on modern Chinese modal word “ne”, on which the academic circle has been worked for so many years. And try to demonstrate the results objectively and comprehensively. Based on the completion of this task, we will do a research on how the three sets of primary Chinese textbooks arrange the modal word “ne” combined with the Chinese Level Standards and Grammar Level Outline, related theories and opinions on repetition rate, textbooks, explanations and practices. And analysis the“ne” in each of these three textbooks from the text, grammar explanation and exercises in them. These three sets of primary Chinese textbooks are Happy Chinese,Learn Chinese with Me and New Practical Chinese Textbook. They are respectively designed for different teaching objects from junior high school students, high school students and college students. On the base of our survey and analysis, we will put forward different advice for these three sets of teaching materials about the arrangements of the modern Chinese modal word “ne”. Due to the limited capacity of individuals, we will just analysis the very first students’ books of these three sets of textbooks.Totally, there will be four parts in this essay:Firstly, introduction.In this part, we will summarize the achievements on modern Chinese modal word “ne” from ontology and teaching Chinese as a second language these two aspects by predecessors. Although we already have leaders who worked on doing researches on “ne”, and the research direction is broader and broader, the research degree is deeper and deeper. But clearly, the achievements is far less fuller or richer than that in the ontological study. And according to this, this paper sets the research direction as the “ne” in primary teaching textbooks based on the previous achievements, in order to enhance the breadth and depth on teaching materials, and also to provide a reference for teaching Chinese as a second language.Secondly, analyses.In this part, we will analysis the “ne” in the Chinese Level Standards and Grammar Level Outline and those three sets of textbooks. In the first place, we will show the “ne” in the Chinese Level Standards and Grammar Level Outline. And then,we will investigate in the “ne” in those three textbooks which are Happy Chinese,Learn Chinese with Me and New Practical Chinese Textbook, especially it’s first show and repetition, and how it appears in the text, explanation and exercises.Finally, we will sort out the layout comparison table about how these three materials arrange “ne” to compare and analyse the gains and losses of that.Thirdly, advice.In this part, we will offer some arrangement advice for these three sets of teaching materials based on the the arrangement situation we’ve sorted out from those teaching materials mentioned above, according to related theories and opinions on reappearance and arrangements for Chinese teaching materials.Lastly, summary.In this part, we will summarize the whole paper, and point out the shortcomings and deficiencies of this paper.
