Evolution Of Heroines In Novels Composed By Wang Anyi

As an outstanding female writer in contemporary China, Wang Anyi has composed large amounts of feminist novels so far, which strongly affect lots of post writers and researchers. Therefore, her works have been paid more and more attention in the past decades. However, the currently researches relating to Wang Anyi’s works are scarce of entirety due to most of research papers centrally linking to a special aspect or field. In the present dissertation, we systematically discussed their features such as space transferring and temporal evolution, and artistic styles, which was divided into three chapters.In chapter one, we focused on the description and transferring of space in Wang Anyi’s novels on the basis of the typical works and it was found that the space, as an important factor, showed open and commonality. Indeed, the common persons and their living space were widely involved in order to illustrate the culture and morality of a special community and/or the whole society. First, the living space of “Wenwen” was considered as naive and simple; then heroines were located into lives of love and/or sex with the corresponding men to reveal their desirable and secret living space; finally, the common lives of one person in Wang Anyi’s novels have been exhibited to stand for that of the same flock, and their goals was to pursue much better things and lives.In chapter two, the feminine consciousness shown in Wang Anyi’s novels was summarized according in the line of time. Significantly, it was concluded that the time-dependent feminine consciousness was considered to obviously exist in Wang Anyi’s novels. Namely, with the composing time of novels, the feminine consciousness displayed in her works has become stronger. In the early period, the heroines relied on men, such as Wenwen, suggesting that the feminine consciousness of heroines was very weak. During interim, the desire release and sex liberation of heroines implied that women gradually grasped the fate of themselves. After 1980 s, the writer mainly searched the equilibrium point between women and men to keep balance of lives. How to live in harmony environment is the final target of all human beings.In chapter three, we discussed the artistic styles of Wang Anyi’s works upon the evolution of time, suggesting that artistic styles of her works were demonstrated to become much complexity and maturity in the scenario of aging and mature of Wang Anyi herself. From adolescence to maturity to return period, the features of description underwent poetic-image, vigorous-activity and culture-mirrored. Viewing the works from narratology, it was easily found that numerous narrative modes coexisted in the works composed by Wang Anyi because of the writer driving numerous narrative modes very well.
