A Report On E-C Translation Of Sizing Box Operating Instructions

As the exchanges between countries become increasingly frequent, scientific translation plays an important part in introducing advanced technology from foreign countries. Operating instruction belong to scientific and technical text, and have the features of practicability and business. A standard product description can bring great convenience to the users. So it is more meaningful to discuss the problems encountered in translating the text of operationg instructions and to explore the solutions.This report is done on English to Chinese translation practice of the Sizing Box Operating Instructions. Based on the translation material, the translator divides the report into five parts. First, the translator analyzes the text features of the Sizing Box Operating Instructions. Then, according to the three priciples of skopos theory, the translator mainly explores the suitable translation strategies and methods to deal with the problems of words, sentences and text that are encountered in the translation process. It aims to produce readable translated version. Through the translation practice report, the translator summarizes some methods and strategies on translating operating instruction pamphlets as well as some translation experiences and deficiencies. The translator hopes that the report can be used for references and enlightenment in English to Chinese translation of similar texts as well as to improve the translation quality in scientific and technical text.
