A Report On Translation Of Scientific And Technical Papers From The Perspective Of Newmark’s Translation Theory

Science and technology constitute the primary productive force.As scientific and technical paper represents the development of a nation,it is necessary to translate Chinese paper into English so as to promote academic exchanges.Scientific and technical paper is methodically organized and is generally succinct and logical in language.Translators are required to present the original logic and language feature when translating scientific and technical thesis.This report is based on the Chinese-English translation practice of three papers written by scholars of Tianjin University: A Tunable Multi-wavelength Femtosecond Laser with Precise Synchronization;The Legendary Family Lei and the Summer Palace;Analysis on the Characteristics of Co-Author Network in the Graduate Education Research in China——Based on the Visualization of CSSCI Database(2001-2015).The translator adopts Peter Newmark’s translation theory as translation principle.During the translation practice,the translator used semantic translation strategy and communicative translation strategy according to different text types.The report contains analysis on lexical and syntactic cases in the translation practices,studying on the feasibility of the semantic translation strategy and communicative translation strategy in the translation of scientific and technical papers.The report consists of four parts.The first part gives the background of the translation task,the language feature of texts,the requirement of the task,and the meaning of the task.The second part is the description of whole translation process including the preparation,translation and correction.Thirdly,the report provides analysis of specific examples in lexical and syntactic aspects.The fourth part is the conclusion on what the translator have learnt from this translation practice.
