In 1948, oral history emerged in the Columbia University in America in the first place. After that, it gradually spread to a lot of countries and produced more effects. In China, it has drawn more attention of mass media and academic circle as a new branch of history, which has been a vital tendency of Chinese academic development at present.Oxford Handbook of Oral History tells about the oral history in details. The translation task is the chapter 22 of this book, introducing the development of oral history and record technology. The type of this book is academic writing, so there are much information with cultural background and many long sentences without much modifier. Therefore the author uses the theory of text type from Reiss.Based on the characteristics of the text and translation progress, the report aims to discuss three questions by text type: what translating guidance does the text type have on academic writing, how to deal with the vocabularies in the new branch field and how to translate long sentences in academic writing. In order to analyze these aspects, the author makes text type as the translation standard and pays more attention to the new vocabularies and long sentences in the procedure.According to the translation of academic writing in this new field, the author learned the importance of searching background and using the theory to deal with the problems in the translation. |
