The Oxford Political Theory Handbook gives an account of the dynamic and controversial field of political theory.Political theory has long been regarded as a major branch of political science, but in recent years political theory has made great strides in many directions. In this book,it discussed the contemporary currents in political science and several hot issues in political theory such as states, people, justice, equality, and freedom. They examined the boundaries and core of political theory, the background of globalization in the field, and the challenges brought about by social, economic, and technological advances. The Oxford Political Theory Handbook is one of Oxford’s political science series, providing an authoritative and attitude-oriented view from a political science perspective. The texts of political science are far away from the daily life.Political science derives from the West and has strong academic characteristics, many political thinkers also have the identity of philosophers and jurists. Therefore, their views are elusive and the language is obscure. It has caused many difficulties for translation. The report takes the chapter "People" in The Oxford Political Theory Handbook as the example.By analyzing the type and characteristics of the text,it summarized the characteristics of the text and determined the guiding theory of translation.Based on translation theory, the report selected appropriate methods for translation, enumerated the difficulties encountered in translation, and analysed typical cases from the different levels of the text.At last, the report reflected on the problems in the practice, and gained experience for future translation and assistance with the translation of social science texts.
