Translation Methods Of Long And Difficult Sentences In Training Handbook

As a continent with the largest number of countries,European students have diverse languages and cultures.It is difficult for schools to use a unified teaching model,curriculum content structure and teacher training model in Europe.There are many difficulties in curriculum development and teacher training.In order to ensure the fairness and quality of education,the Committee of Ministers to member States adopted Recommendation CM/Rec(2014)5 that refers to the importance of competences in the language(s)of schooling for equity and quality in education.A Handbook for Curriculum Development and Teacher Training — The Language Dimesion in All Subjects(it is shorthand for Handbook)contains specific measures to implement Recommendation CM/Rec(2014)5,which can also provide useful reference for China to better carry out teaching in multilingual environment.The translation project is an explanatory text,which is academic strongly.And there are many long and difficult sentences posing great challenges to the translation work.On the basis of translation,the translation report focuses on the analysis and summary of the translation methods of long and difficult sentences.First of all,the translator has made clear the criteria for determining the length and complexity of long and difficult sentences in the translaion.The translator mainly selects sentences as long and difficult sentences with more than 30 words,which also have the features of clauses,of nested hierarchical relationship between clauses and clauses,and of parenthesis,ellipsis and adjustment of word order.The translator makes quantitative statistics and classification of long and difficult sentences.The ideographic order and sentence form of long and difficult sentences are different from that of Chinese,so the translator uses Zhang Peiji's translation methods for translating the Handbook that are sequencing,inversion and division,then analyzes and summarizes the main contents and characteristics of each translation method.Finally,the translator analyzes the grammatical structure and logical relationship of each translation instance,and then adjust the sentences according to the ideographic order and morphological structure of Chinese after translating them in different levels,so as to make them conform to the Chinese linguistic habit rather than the original structure.This translation report aims to provide some references for the translation research and practice of long and difficult sentences in expository texts.
