Analysis Of Liang Qichao’s Research On Chuci

Liang Qichao is the leader in the Constitutional Reform and Modernization of1898, an outstanding enlightenment thinker, and the founder of “using modern method to study Chinese literature”. He is also the founder of modern academic culture, who opened up a new paradigm of modern academic research. Liang is well known as the "encyclopedic scholar" and is full of works in his entire life. Liang’s achievements and influence is extensive, and the breadth and depth of his academic research also surpasses predecessors. Liang’s academic achievement is of great significance, as well as his study of Chuci.Since the 20 th century, along with the transformation of social economic,political and cultural fields, the changes in academic ideas and academic vision of the researchers of Chuci, and the researching development of Chuci itself, huge changes have taken place in the study of Chuci, of which Liang Qichao is the leader to this contribution.This thesis consists of four parts. The first part mainly analyzed from Liang’s era background of the late 19 th century to early 20 th century, which is influenced by the late Qing dynasty’s "administration and pragmatism" ideological trend and the western ideological trend. By combining his early life experience and academic experience, to study the influence to his research on Chuci; and further analyzing what drives Liang to engage in the study of Chuci, the author found that there are many motivations include Liang’s patriotism, similarities between him and Qu Yuan,the heart to save the nation by academic endeavors and to transform traditional culture. These driving factors are also his research purposes and meanings in the study of Chuci.The second part outlines the contents of Liang’s main works on the research of Chuci, by discussing the two different periods of Liang in the identification of Qu Yuan’s works and the evaluation to Qu Yuan, analyzing the causes of this difference.The third part is a comprehensive analysis of Liang’s academic achievements on the research of Chuci, including the main points, the research pattern and method of Liang’s research on Chuci, and discusses the academic inheritance and innovation of Liang’s research on Chuci.The fourth partdiscusses the status and influence of Liang’s research on Chuci, which includes the significance of the research on the development of "new Chuci", the value of Liang’s research on the history study of Chuci, and the deficiency of Liang’s research on Chuci.
