This is a translation project report on I AM AMERICA AND SO CAN YOU! (Chapter One, Eight, Ten) written by Stephen Colbert. The translator chose three representative topics: American family, higher education and media, hoping the translation can help the Chinese readers get a better understanding of American culture and society in an all-round way. This report is divided into five chapters. Chapter One is an introductory statement, including the project background, objective and its significance as well as the report outline. Chapter Two is an introduction to the original text, including the author’s information, the content, the structure and the writing style of the source text. Chapter Three is about translation difficulties, including the preparation before translation as well as the difficulties from the word level, the syntactic level, the writing technique level, and the cultural differences level. In Chapter Four, the translator tries to study and explore the methods and strategies of translation by using the Functional Equivalence Theory. Translation theories and skills adopted during the translation are illustrated with examples. Chapter Five is a summary of the experiences and lessons learned by the translator in the process of this translation project, including some insufficiencies that should be made up in the future.
