This translation project is about the culture of ethnic minorities in the field of humanities and social sciences. The source text excerpts the first chapter from the book The Local Culture of Yiche People, which was written by Mr. Mao Quanyou and Mr. Fu Guangyu. The chapter mainly introduces the traditional costumes and headdresses of Yiche People which is a branch of Hani ethnic minority living in the south of Yunnan Province. The Local Culture of Yiche People, which is among the few books talking about Yiche People, is of great significance for the researchers to study at home and abroad. The report is based on the practice of translating the first chapter excerpted from The Local Culture of Yiche People, which is a book of the culture of ethnic minorities. There are altogether four parts in the report. In the report, the translation project is firstly introduced, and the source text is deeply analyzed, which is the most difficult part to handle well. Under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory, with the examples selected from the text, the author puts forward different translation methods to different problems, such as the translation of the words with local characteristics and the translation of rhetorical devices. In the end, a summary is reached as well as relevant advice is provided for the translators to translate the similar texts.
