The Chinese character “de”, being one of the most commonly used function words, is both critical and difficult for the Chinese learners. This dissertation studies the acquisition of the usage of “de” among college students from Confucius Institute Chinese language Center in Kyrgyzstan, analyzes their errors, such as misplacement,mistakenly adding, replacing or missing, during the acquiring process, and elicits the reason of these errors-short of understanding, over simplification and negative transfer of their mother languages. The last part comes to the conclusion that, 1. The teachers and editors who apply or compile textbooks should abide by the rules that easier language points comes before the harder ones, and parse the usage of “de”into levels. The textbooks should cater to the different acceptance degree and abilities for the second language Chinese learners and the Chinese language researchers who speaks Chinese as the first language. 2. During the teaching process, teachers should be more efficient by functioning as a guide who elicits students’ interests and explains the frequent errors by contrastive analysis of Chinese and students’ mother tongue, so as to help the learners acquire the usage of “de” faster and better, and to improve teaching effectiveness of “de”. By analyzing the acquisition process of “de” and summarizing the teaching sequence of “de”, this dissertation also intends to provide reliable references for teaching other grammar points.
