The translated text of this report is Translation Studies(Third Edition),written by Susan Bassnett,a famous professor in University of Warwick,UK.The translator is in charge of the translation of The Preface,Introduction and Conclusion.A brief introduction to the cause,the current situation and the development prospect of Translation Studies are given by the Third Preface.The main idea and the outline of the book to the readers are presented by the Introduction.The emphases on the great progress of Translation Studies and the close relationship between Translation Studies and translation practice have been placed by the Conclusion.Although Translation Studies(Third Edition)has been published for many years,which is still written in English version,there is no Chinese version up to now.In consideration of the above facts,it is necessary to translate the book into Chinese.The significance of translating the book can be described as follows:first,the views of translation of foreign scholars can be introduced into China on the basis of the former,which will improve the development of the field;second,the translation of the book can offer a reference to those who are engaged in translation between Chinese and English;last,it improves the ability of the translatorAccording to Peter Newmark's text typology,Translation Studies(Third Edition)is an informative text.Not only the true information and objective facts,but also the faithfulness to the source text and the acceptability to the readers should be taken into consideration during the process of translation.Therefore,the translator chooses text typology as the theory and communicative translation as the strategy as well as semantic translation to analyse the cases with different translation techniques from lexical level,syntactic level,cultural level and discoursal level.In the end,deficiencies and gains are obtained from the translation practice which should be focused on in the future translation tasks.The report shows that any translation should be completed with full preparations,translation theory,translation strategies and translation methods as well as the serious attitude of the translator.
