| In recent years, the documentary films at home and abroad have enjoyed great popularity, and film sources of different languages have spread among various countries. Therefore, the requirement for the translation of documentary film subtitles has also increased. This translation practice report took A Bite of China as the research object, and the translated text was adapted from the subtitles of the first two episodes in the first season. As one of the most popular documentaries in China, A Bite of China has not only entertained the audience, but manifested the industry, wisdom and cultural essence of the Chinese nation.In translation ecology, a new theoretical discipline, two unrelated theories —translation and ecology were boldly linked. Under the guidance of the three theories of the translation ecology, that is, the ecological environment of translation, law of limiting factors and keeping the ecological balance of translation, the main purpose of this theory is to make the translation obtain a good ecological environment. Its precise knowledge network has played a positive role in the balanced development of translation theory.From the perspective of ecology translation, the problems, such as the space limitation of subtitle translation, cultural limitation of dish translation and aesthetic consideration of documentary language, in the Chinese-English translation process of A Bite of China were discussed. Combined with the characteristics of this literary form, the corresponding solutions were indicated, and high-quality translation was concluded. In the end, translation strategies of documentary subtitles were summarized. Relying on the ecological environment of translation, the space-time, cultural and aesthetic limiting factors were considered and the balance between the source language and the target language was achieved. |
