A Study On Subtitle Translation Of Documentary Films From The Perspective Of Susan Bassnett's Cultural Translation

In order to promote the economical development of China and countries along the Silk Road Belt,President Xi Jinping visited these areas from September2013 and proposed the strategic initiative of “New Silk Road Economic Belt” and “21 st Century Maritime Silk.”The documentary is an important carrier for different cultural exchanges and communications.The documentary“Remote Home-The Belt and Road”can objectively and truly reflect the natural history,traditional culture and social economy of the countries along the Silk Road and the Maritime Silk Road.It has played an active role in making Chinese culture understood by the world.The difference from film and TV drama translation is that the subtitles of documentaries are more documentary and more informative.At the same time,cultural documentaries contain a large amount of cultural information,and the translation methods and requirements used are also different from those of film and television dramas.It is necessary to explore the methods and means of subtitle translation for documentaries.This article is based on Bassnett's cultural translation perspective.The translator should give full play to the subjectivity and apply various translation strategies.It is possible to realize the cultural and functional equivalence between the source language and the target language,while avoiding the lack of cultural connotation.Subtitle translation is a kind of unique auditionable document,and it is necessary to combine the temporality of subtitles and other principles in order to formally meet the target language' s expression habits so that the audience can better accept it.It briefly introduces the study of subtitle translation at home and abroad.Then the article introduces the characteristics of the documentary subtitles and the principles that should be followed in subtitling.The third part introduce choices of strategies from perspective of cultural translation theory.While the emphasis the fourth chapter analyzes the specific cases to the cultural words and sentences level.And the conclusion ends at the final part.
