Translation Of Fuzzy Language From The Perspective Of Reception Aesthetics

Fuzziness is a general character and essential attribute of all languages. There are a lot of fuzzy language in literary works. Fuzzy language means uncertain referred language unit. The uncertainty of fuzzy language offers readers a vast space for imagination, which greatly activates and improves readers’ vision of expectation. The use of these fuzzy language can expand readers’ imagination and help them to get aesthetic emotion. Fuzzy language of this novel is a big problem in literary translation and it is also a challenge for translator.This paper mainly discusses the translation of fuzzy language in the short novel The Night at Spring Breeze Hotel. According to the characteristics of fuzzy language in The Night at Spring Breeze Hotel, the translator groups them into semantic fuzziness, pragmatic fuzziness, syntactic fuzziness, rhetoric fuzziness. In order to produce a better translation of fuzzy language in original text, this article will apply semantic gap, uncertainty and readers’ expectation these two concept of reception aesthetics to discuss translation strategies and techniques of these four types of fuzziness, analyzing when to remain the semantic gap and when to fill the gap. At last the translator puts forward four translation strategies: translation from fuzziness to fuzziness, translation from fuzziness to preciseness, translation from preciseness to fuzziness and omission of fuzziness. Hoping that through translation of fuzzy language, the target language readers can get the aesthetic emotions from the fuzzy language of the original text.
