The health care system provides health insurance for each citizen of the modern society. America, as the largest superpower today, spends the m ost in health care system. It not only has the first-class medical facilities, medical personnel and health service, but also is the most advanced in the medical science and technology in the world. However, at the sam e time, America is the only country without universal health care in the advanced countries in the whole world.Although in America the people’s health insurance consists of three parts: private commercial health insurance, social health insurance and public health insurance, the health insurance of most Americans is related to the job status of the people, and it is paid by the employers partly or fully for the employees.Because of various cau ses before the hea lth care reform of Obam a, there were three severe problems in American health care system.(1) the skyro cketing medical expenses and costly medical cost for all Americans. The American government spends over $ 2.5 trillion on health care system annually, taking up about 17 percent in American GDP. But about 50 m illion people were uninsur ed in America before the reform, amounting to 19 percent of the total population.(2) low coverage and lacking fairness. Especially after the financial crisis in 2008, American economy was in great depression, and the enterprises operated badly in economic performance and had great financial pressure, so they were reluctan t to provide health insurance for their employees, which caused more and more Americans to have no heal th insurance.(3) low efficiency and quality of the health service. Although America spends the most in health care system, its result is dissatisfactory. Hence most Americans are not content with the health service in the United States. Therefore, to solve the serious problems in American health care system, restore American economy and provide an af fordable and accessible health insurance for all Americans, President O bama promoted th e health care reform in 2009. The health care reform bill broke through the fierce resistance from all sides and w as passed by the Congress, which made the Democrats’ dream for about a century com e true. The passage of the health care reform has not only m ade a histor ic breakthrough in American history, but also a milestone of American social security history. Hence, in the thesis, I attach much importance to the research on the f easibilities of American health care reform of Obama administration.
