Popular language as a linguistic and social phenomenon, reflecting the different periods of social and human landscapes and people’s ideology and values, different period of popular language will show different characteristics. As a kind of special social language, it has also become the focus of scholars. However, there is few people research the popular language on the We-Media times from the perspective of rhetoric.This article is baized on the previous studies and from the perspective of combining with rhetoric, grammar, communication, psychology, pragmatics and other disciplines of knowledge to explore popular language rhetoric characteristics and reasons of popularity in the background of We-Media times.This paper is divided into three chapters except the introduction part:The introduction mainly elaborates the basis of article’s topic selection, the significance of topic selection, related concepts definition, lines on the research status and research methods and the innovations.The first chapter mainly analyses the common feature of the catchwords from Reform and Opening. The first section summarizes the four sources of the popular languages including: news events, the network events, social phenomenon, and ACG language; the second section explains the rhetorical features of the popular language from the three aspects of phonetics, vocabulary, grammar.The second chapter mainly discusses meme rhetoric theory of the popular languages. Firstly, in the We-Media times, buzzword memes are classified, mainly divided into: word meme, sentence and discourse memes meme. Then, according to the spreading ways of memes, I analysis the rhetorical strategy of the catchwords from the genotype and phenotype of memes in the We-Media times.The third chapter analyzes the rhetoric motivation of catchwords and mainly from the three aspects of social context, language and Rhetoric Principles of psychology. The development of science and technology, social progress and some pop culture gave birth to a large number of popular languages, at the same time, the economy principle of language and class.
