Based on chapters 6 to 11 of Fast.Feast.Repeat.,this translation practice report summarizes the problems encountered in translation and puts forward corresponding solutions. As a medical popular science text,it not only contains relevant knowledge of intermittent fasting, there are also literary and vivid expressions to reflect the author’s emotional attitude and the intention of “calling” for a healthy lifestyle. In this report, the author uses fuzzy rhetoric to achieve such effect. Therefore, the translator analyzes the fuzzy rhetoric from two perspectives: stable fuzzy rhetoric and temporary fuzzy rhetoric.Stable fuzzy rhetoric refers to the uncertainty of word meaning due to the ambiguity of the language itself. For stable fuzzy rhetoric, the translator analyzes from four aspects: fuzzy nouns, fuzzy verbs, fuzzy adjectives and fuzzy quantifiers.Temporary fuzzy rhetoric refers to the fuzziness caused by the combination of words. For temporary fuzzy rhetoric, the translator describes it from three aspects including metaphor, personification and euphemism. In translation, the translator adopts translation methods and techniques such as free translation, conversion, semantic extension, and omission to achieve the same expressive effect as the original text.Through the writing of this translation practice report, the translator has gained a better understanding of fuzzy rhetoric, hoping that the translator’s insights can provide some references for future translators.
