A Report On Patent Translation Of Actively-cooled Fiber-reinforced Ceramic Matrix Composite Rocket Propulsion Thrust Chamber And The Method Of Producing The Same

Recently, with the rapid development of China’s economy and its increasing demand for technological innovation, the technical exchanges between China and other countries have become more and more frequent. As a kind of important source of technical information, patent literatures are playing an increasingly significant role in this trend. To overcome the language barrier between countries, patent translation emerged and has been evolving continuously. Consequently, researches and studies on patent translation also developed and have made some progress.This report mainly discusses the study on Chinese translation of English patent specification. The patent specification served as study cases belongs to the Chinese Society for Composite Material whose Patent No is US6783824B2. The author will integrate theory with practice, firstly analyzing the structure and language features of the targeted specification, and then studying the difficulties in its translation and the corresponding skills that can be adopted through living examples.The first chapter of this report is a brief introduction to the translation project.The second chapter is a detailed presentation of the author’s preparation work. The third chapter is a case study that will conducted in four aspects: translation of attributives, translation of prepositions, translation of terminology and translation of legal vocabulary and fixed sentences in pattern. The last chapter is a project summary, mainly discussing the deficiencies and merits of the author’s work in this project.Through discussions and analysis in several aspects, this report reveals that patent specifications are unique in structure features and linguistic characteristics.Patent translator should use different translation skills and strategies according to their characteristics to guarantee the accuracy of the information in target texts. The author hopes to enrich the study of patent specifications about composite materials in China and make some contributions to the follow-up development of this area.
