This paper is mainly divided into five parts: the first is the introduction, which mainly expounds the theory of the origin and development of the grotesque and the present situation, the purpose and meaning of this study.The first chapter analyzes the grotesque performance of Mo Yan’s works. It is mainly divided into three parts to analyze: Grotesque image, grotesque sensory and grotesque conception. Grotesque image mainly analyze those "strange, power, chaos, God" characters, and analyze those flesh that be secularized and demeaned by Mo Yan in his works. Grotesque sensory mainly analyze how Mo Yan’s works mobilize readers’ various sensory organs, and inflict extreme sensory impact and fantasy experience. Grotesque conception analyzes some grotesque plot in his works.The second chapter analyzes the spiritual connotation of Mo Yan’s grotesque writing. I make three points:binary spiritual world; free writing spirit and transcendental vision of anthropology. Binary spiritual world mainly analyzes the subversion of unified aesthetic standards by Mo Yan’s pluralistic aesthetic and its significance. Free writing spirit mainly discusses expression of Mo Yan’s spirit of freedom in writing. Transcendental vision of anthropology jumps out from the aesthetic framework of ethics, viewing Mo Yan in anthropology angle.The third chapter analyzes Mo Yan’s grotesque style from three aspects: Mo Yan’s childhood; Chinese and foreign literature; hometown and era influence. The childhood aspect mainly states starvation theme. The Chinese and foreign literature aspect mainly analyze William Cuthbert Faulkner, Gabriel Garca Mrquez and Pu Songling’s influence. The hometown and era aspect mainly narrate Gao Mi’s folk customs and influence of the later half of the 20 th century of China.The forth chapter summarizes the value of Mo Yan’s grotesque writing and his mistakes. The value is about his breaking the traditional standards of aesthetic and helping people think more equally and freely. The mistake is about his uncontrolled ugliness piling.
