Research On Urban Public Art In The City Of Urumqi

With the high-speed development of modernization, compared with other medium-sized cities in China, Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has shown rare and valuable local characteristics on buildings as well as local conditions and customs. It is quite important to balance the development and construction against keeping own unique temperament and cultural deposits. Public art is just the key to solve this problem. The urban public art of Urumqi should become a banner of local Xinjiang culture which not only follow the local history and culture, but also absorb the modern urban elements. On the background of development and evolution of public art in the world, we analyzed the development status and prospect of urban public art of Urumqi, gave constructive suggestions according results of field study. Besides, we strived to endow the public art with new aesthetic feelings and proper value of the times, by combing the historical characteristics of Xinjiang culture with contemporary development of public art.
