With the development of China economy, rising incomes are boosting households’ consumption capacity, and more and more Chinese people prefer to spend their money on tourism, especially outbound tourism. According to Annual Report of China Outbound Tourism Development 2014, China has secured its position as the world largest outbound tourism market with the largest amount of outbound tourism expenditure, and the people has chosen outbound tourism reaching up to 98 million. It is estimated that there will be 114 million in the coming year. Nowadays, the Internet is the major way to acquire all kinds of information, undoubtedly, the English-Chinese on-line scenic spot introductory text is a must for potential outbound tourists when making preparations. The translation of this kind text will have direct effect on the target receivers then the economic and cultural exchanges among different nations. Currently, compared with Chinese-English on-line scenic spot introductory text, the study on E-C on-line scenic spot introductory text is less, which may be responsible for the unsatisfactory E-C translation version of on-line scenic spot introductory text and could not meet the ever-growing need of outbound tourists. Hence, this thesis studies the E-C translation of on-line scenic spot introductory texts with the translation of travel news from Global Times as an example.The purpose of scenic spot introductory texts is to make the receivers get the needed information and fulfill the communicative goals. Reader’s effect is treated as the starting and fundamental objective of the translation of on-line scenic spot introductory texts. This thesis studies the translation of on-linescenic spot introductory texts under Skopos Theory by employing case analysis method and induction. At first, this paper points out the difficulties in the translation process, and defines the nature of the problems which can be defined into two types: linguistic problem and cultural problem. In the linguistic problem, the translation of long sentences and subject is discussed explicitly. Culture-loaded word and cultural vacancy are covered in the cultural problem. Then, under the guidance of three rules of Skopos Theory including the skopos rule, coherence rule and the fidelity rule, the problems mentioned are analyzed with the cases. In the end, translation approaches corresponding to the four translation phenomenon are generated. This thesis is expected to shed some light on the E-C translation of on-line scenic spot introductory texts and also inspire further interest in this area of study.
