Teaching Chinese characters is an essential part of teaching Chinese to foreigners. However, learning Chinese characters is very difficult for the students whose mother tongues are line-languages. It is necessary to make teaching characters interesting. There have been lots of interesting ways to teach characters, which only focus on independent groups of characters. However, it is really lack of the relevant researches based on textbooks or in South America. According to the internship in Abdon Calderon High School of Ecuador in South America, the writer chooses the students as the object and experiments several interesting methods for making some reference in this area.This paper firstly introduces the relevant research reviews of interesting teaching for Chinese characters, then uses questionnaires to know the students` situation of learning characters and combines with the textbook to experiment the interesting ways, for instance, “Focusing on Pronunciation Method”, “N+1 Method”, “Slapping Method”, “Order Method”, “Wiping Method”, “Chess Method” according to characters` structure, pronunciation and meaning. Finally, the writer uses another questionnaire to analyze the effects of all the students and make teacher`s reflection after putting those interesting teaching methods into application. It hopes that this paper can bring some inspiration to interesting teaching for characters and make some contribution to teaching characters in South America.
