A Study On The Potential Construction In Guangxingzhou Dialects,yueyang Of Hunan Province

The potential construction in Guangxingzhou dialect, Yueyang of Hunan Province can be divided into two parts:potential auxiliary(related construction) and potential V-C construction. We try to depict the dialect from these two and seek the characteristics of potential construction in Guangxingzhou dialect.The result of our study shows as following.The characteristics of potential auxiliary in Guangxingzhou dialect are as following.(1)Potential auxiliary “de” is frequently used in dialect and structure “de+V” is the main form of potential express.“V” in this structure can be “V-O”、”V-C” and other complicated structures.(2) “hui”、“neng” and “keyi” are supplemental potential auxiliary. Their meanings are more narrow than in modern Chinese.What’s more, most of the speakers are the young and middle-aged people.(3) For the influence of the southeast mandarin, there is a new phenomenon in dialect-the repeated use of potential auxiliary,for example, “dehui”、“huide”、“dehuide”、“dehuihui”.The potential V-C construction also shows its unique properties.(1) The potential V-C construction in Guangxingzhou dialect contains “V de O”、“V de C(O)”、“V de OC” and “V O de C”. They are main forms of potential express. The potential V-C construction with object has formed ABC three types as Wu Fuxiang declared.And they come from different historical levels.(2) “V de(O)” has two forms of V-not-V questions sentence-“V bu V de(O)” and “V de Vbu de(O)”. “V de C” also has two forms of V-not-V questions sentence-“V bu V de C” and “V de CVbu C”. These show the unique feature of dialect.(3) To emphasize the object, people often put it in the head of a sentence and form the structure of “OV de C”.The potential auxiliary and potential V-C construction have different features in the Guangxingzhou dialect. And there are differences in meaning and usage. The people there will select a proper form according to the context and their needs. For the deeper and deeper influence of surrounding dialects and modern Chinese,the original potential structure will suffer more violent shock.
