In the middle of the 17th century, Qing regime, established by Manchu aristocracy, started to rule China. During the early Qing Dynasty(The periods of Shunzhi, Kangxi, Yongzheng, and Qianlong), the cases of literary persecution broke out, followed by the Literary Inquisition, which had the power of making people turn pale at the mention of it. The taboo, which is rich in meaning, is a Chinese-specific linguistic and cultural phenomenon. The taboo of Qing Dynasty gained new features on the basis of historical one, manifested in its combination with Literary Inquisition. This paper clarifies the related information about the taboos of Literary Inquisition in Qing Dynasty, analyses and classifies the cases, and discusses the features of taboos through classification and comparison.This thesis can be divided into the following parts:The first part is introduction, which includes the research status of taboos, the achievements of former research, the significance of choosing this thesis, and its sources and methods.The second part includes chapter2 to chapter5, in which the cases of taboos in Literary Inquisition from the period of Shunzhi to the period of Qianlong are collected and classified respectively. Three cases under the leadership of Shunzhi are involved, which can be classified into two types. Six cases under the leadership of Kangxi are involved, which can be classified into three types. Six cases under the leadership of Yongzheng are involved, which can be classified into four types. Forty-one cases under the leadership of Qianlong are involved, which can be classified into six types. This kind of classification enables us to clarify our thoughts about the cases of taboos involved in Literary Inquisition, to gain a deeper understanding of how the emperor strengthened the autocracy of ideology and culture and maintained their ruling through literary persecution.Chapter6 is the last part. On the basis of the former 4 chapters, it summarizes the features of the taboos involved in Literary Inquisition during the early Qing Dynasty.In addition, A list of cases involved in Literary Inquisition during Qing Dynasty is attached at the end of this paper. It collects the main cases of taboos and Literary Inquisition involved in this paper.
