On The Aesthetic Qualities Of T S Eliot’s Poetry

T·S Eliot is an outstanding poet, critic and playwright with the world-wide fame. The influence of him and his works on literature was far-reaching till today. In 1948, T·S Eliot won the Nobel Prize for Literature and is praised as the most important leader of the modernist poetry movement. The publication of T·S Eliot’s The Waste Land in 1920 s initiated a new era of modern English poetry, setting the English and American poetry free from old aesthetic mode and raised a new banner for exploring a poetry creation of a new kind. It is an epoch making mark for the history of European and American modern literature and the art of poetry. Like any other form of the literature, poetry reflects the pursuit of beauty. It is T·S Eliot’s sedulously pursuit on modern aesthetics of poetry that resulted in such huge success in modern poetry creation. T·S Eliot, with his unique way, broke the traditional way of the pursuit for the poetry’s aesthetics and continued to develop aesthetic ideology of modern poetry, which paved a new road for the creation of modern poetry. In addition to its significance of poetry creation, the ultra-age aesthetic significance of T·S Eliot’s poetry, substantially, is an aesthetic experience which gives the priority to the aesthetic ideology. The composition of the poetry is the poetic emotion assurance, with the essence of which is the conversion of the personal emotion to the aesthetic emotion which is of general significance. This reflects T·S Eliot’s pursuit of the aesthetic quality in poetry creation.The first part of the article is the introduction. It describes the literary status and the outstanding contributions of T·S Eliot’s major works. There will be also the summary and organization of the main points of international and domestic studies on T·S Eliot. By combining the features of T·S Eliot’s poetry, it leads the main aspects and the significance of the aesthetics of beauty appreciation.The second part of the article is the body. The analysis is illustrated in four chapters. The first chapter is the perspective of the theme which reflects the aesthetics. T·S Eliot’s knowledge of time is not limited by the basic time occurrence. He explores the symmetrical aesthetic connotations of the flow and the stillness of the time. The next is the spiritual salvation of the beauty after the mental sufferings. This is a thought exploration by T·S Eliot himself to analyze the internal aesthetic pursuit. The following part is the analysis of the unique aesthetics of the alienation world. It revealed that in the alienation world, his aesthetic ideas get further sublimation. This is the tragic beauty. The last part of the chapter one is the study of the grotesque of the theme of death. This part is permeated with the new perspective of the understanding of the beauty of death. The second chapter is the analysis of the aesthetics of the symbolist meaning of the wasteland and the aesthetic perception of the interweaving of the water and the fire according to the analysis method of the literature and art. This paper summarizes the aesthetic analysis and the qualities of T·S Eliot’s poetry and draws a conclusion: T·S Eliot’s poetry has an extremely rich aesthetic point of view to explore, and fully confirms its irreplaceable aesthetic quality.This paper mainly focuses on the aesthetic qualities of T·S Eliot’s poetry to undertake aesthetic analysis and discusses its unique aesthetic qualities based on the theories of the aesthetics with the characteristics of T·S Eliot’s poetry and finally arrive at a conclusion that T·S Eliot took poetry as aesthetic subject to create art and achieved and conveyed the aesthetic experience, which developed the personal modernist poetic style and became a leading figure in 20 th modern poetry field. The creation of his poem is thus the creation of the beauty, the development of the science of the beauty and also the revelation of the mystery and the truth of the beauty.
