In this report, five essays (clearly noted as essays in the book) from ’Kuoyu Ⅲ’ have been selected to be translated and studied. Printed on Feb,2nd 2013 and published on Feb,5th 2013 by Guangcun Publishing House,’Kuoyu Ⅲ’ is a teaching material for Japanese high school students. The report includes five parts. In the first part, the significance and some background information are mentioned. The main features of Japanese essays are briefly stated and the complete process of the translation is recorded. The second part is a review of the studies on Japanese essay translation in China. Much gap has been left to be filled in the research of this aspect. The third part concentrates on the illustration of translation theories and strategies including the theory of faithfulness, expressiveness and gracefulness and the strategy of domestication. The application of the theory and the strategy in my translation practice is also justified in this part. Cases are studied in the fourth part. And this is the body part of the report. Many examples are given to explain and analyze the whole process of the translation. The theory of faithfulness, expressiveness and gracefulness and the strategy of domestication are further discussed in this part. The fifth part makes the conclusion that in spite of all the prevailing theories in translation, the traditional theory of faithfulness, expressiveness and gracefulness is proved to the best in Japanese essay translation. Only under the guidance of this theory can the translation version of these essays be accepted by readers in China as fluency and graceful. And only under the guidance of this theory can the flavor and charm in the original essays be preserved. Moreover, my translation practice this time confirms that a good essay translator requires having a good mastery of the two languages and translation skills as well as great abilities in comprehension and rich knowledge in many fields.
