On Chinese Translation Of Japanese Idioms On Foot

Idiom commonly exists as one of the linguistic phenomena with noticeable cultural and national characteristics in all languages. In the daily life, idiom has been frequently used because of its huge number and become the indispensable part in language learning. Furthermore, idioms about human body account for a large proportion, which arouses concerns of learners and researchers. However, according to the survey, there is no specific study as Japanese idioms on foot and if any, it is mentioned without detailed explanation. So the thesis is a specialized study based on the previous findings instead of a systematic contrastive study of Japanese idioms on human body. It probes Japanese idioms on foot and their Chinese translation and makes a contrastive analysis from the perspective of conceptual metaphor as to find out the differences of metaphorical expressions and their causes. Thus, it is a great help for Chinese learners to grasp such idioms better and also reference for the future study.The thesis consists of five parts, mainly making a contrastive study of Japanese idioms on foot and their Chinese translation. The introduction part presents the significance, subject and structure of the thesis. Chapter One is the literature review, which serves as a general survey of the previous studies and proposes the approach of the study. Chapter Two classifies the Japanese idioms on foot according to their Chinese translation. Chapter Three explores the differences of metaphorical expressions between Japanese idioms on foot and their Chinese translation and causes from the perspective of conceptual metaphor and presents the causes. Chapter Four makes a conclusion and puts forward the further suggestions for the future research.The innovation lies in two aspects:First, at present there is no such specialized study as this thesis which sees Japanese idioms on foot as its subject and makes detailed classification and analysis. Second, The researches of idioms on human body available now are those which primarily explore meaning, constituents and usages. While the study classifies the idioms according to their Chinese translation and also attempts to discuss the differences of their metaphorical expressions and their causes on the base of conceptual metaphor, which would help learners understand such idioms well.
