On The Emotional Expression Of Chinese Character’ Forms In Graphic Design

The form of Chinese characters is an indispensible and important element in modern graphic design. When aesthetic demands and sensory feelings of the public alter, the form of Chinese characters also changes with era transition. The form of Chinese characters not just owns the function of graphic representation, but also has unique emotional expression function. It can reach requirements of graphic design and make appreciators gain favorable emotional experience. This is also a main development trend of modern graphic design. The research and discussion theme in this paper is how to express peculiar emotions of forms of Chinese characters in graphic design. Modern and artistic design method and form which meet people’s aesthetic requirements are applied to make the form of Chinese characters a way of humanistic care to convey feeling and ideas and please eyes and hearts so as to satisfy all kinds of emotional needs. Firstly, the concepts of forms of Chinese character and emotional expression are expounded respectively. Meanwhile, the causes for aloof human feelings and soul loneliness are analyzed. Besides, people repose emotional absence to articles. Hence, current graphic design works must possess emotional experience. Chinese characters contain abundant connotations and feelings. Therefore, Chinese characters are just a significant medium to transmit information in graphic design, but also an effective means for emotional communication. Then, inseparable “phonology, pictograph and semantics” between forms of Chinese characters and emotional expressions and the functions are organized. On this basis, emotional elements and emotional connotations are sought and explored from original forms and composition of Chinese characters. Unique pattern of manifestation in traditional art is absorbed and learned to fuse ancient elements and innovate. In addition, emotional expression methods of forms of Chinese characters, accuracy and peculiarity followed in the design process are stated step by step in combination of application of forms of Chinese characters in actual design(such as conveying meaning with shapes and conveying feelings with meanings) and development trend of global integration and Chinese and Western fusion. Finally, function value of forms of Chinese characters which is reflected during emotional expression is discussed, and practical application of different emotional needs(romance, emotional expression, humor, sadness, joy, weirdness, fear and love etc.) in graphic design is analyzed. Hence, the researches in this paper offer effective theoretical basis for designers to accurately and fast design the forms of Chinese characters suitable for expressing different emotions. Moreover, the theoretical knowledge and practical skills are combined with my graduation works Gold, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth.
