Parents provide a well-developed social adaptation atmosphere for children, which is of great significance for students in the secondary vocational school to fit in new environment, meet new challenges and adapt social development. So, the purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of parenting style and social adaptation of students in the secondary vocational school, as well as the relationship between them, to seek for the right parenting style to help them create well social adaptability.A sample of 437 students in the Secondary vocational School were investigated and assessed by Egna Minnen Barndoms Uppfostran (EMBU) and Social Adapatation of Middle school students Scale. Through the analysis of the database by using SPSS 13.0. The results are as follows:1. In the 11 dimensions of parenting style, students in the Secondary vocational School had the highest scores on parental warmth and understanding but the lowest scores on parental penalty and strictness. There are significant main effects on gender and whether or not single child of father parenting.2. For students social adaptation, there are no significant effects on gender and whether or not single child. Significant grade differences exist in the other aspects of social adaptability except social adjustments.3. Significantly positively related to parental warmth and understanding and students’ social adaptation of four dimensions in the Secondary vocational School and total score were tested; parents’severe punishment, refused and deny had significant negative correlation with psychological advantage, interpersonal adaptability, mental flexibility and total social adaptability.4. To some extent, parental warmth and understanding of father parenting style had a positive prediction on four dimensions of social adaptability and total scores. While mother’s deny and rejection had a negative prediction on interpersonal adaptability and mental flexibility.
