A Study On Woman Education In The Anti-Japanese Base Areas

During the Anti-Japanese War, the level of education in the base areas was very low and the people there were generally ignorant. In order to meet the demands of national democratic revolutionary struggle, to improve the cultural quality of people in base areas, and especially in order to mobilize the women who occupied half of the population to join in the Anti-Japanese War, the Communist Party of China guided by the Marxist theory of women formulated the relevant principles and policies to develop the woman education in base areas, under the impetus of the ideological trend of modern woman education. The woman education centered around the revolution in the Anti-Japanese base areas, awakening the autonomous consciousness of women and greatly changing their social status. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the women with their full spirits and unprecedented revolutionary enthusiasm brisked on the stage of the Chinese history, sped up the process the war of resistance against Japan and made great contributions to the victory of the Chinese Anti-Japanese war.The thesis has made an in-depth research on the woman education in the Anti-Japanese base areas mainly by looking for historical literature, reading historical materials and combining the historical background. Firstly, it combs and introduces the background and development of the woman education in the Anti-Japanese base areas, pointing out the democratic government’s two ways of the school education and the social education to increase the women’s cultural knowledge, inspire their patriotic enthusiasm, improve the social atmosphere towards women and safeguard the rights of their participation in social practice. And on this basis, the dissertation discusses the features of woman education in the Anti-Japanese base areas, regarding the woman education in the Anti-Japanese base areas as an important part of national education, which reflects the civilian, revolutionary, practical and diverse characteristics. Then, the paper makes an overall evaluation of woman education in the Anti-Japanese base areas from two aspects of its efficiency and deficiency. On one hand, the woman education in the Anti-Japanese base areas was a successful exploration of the path of the Chinese woman education at that time, cultivating a large number of women cadres, creating a new situation of the woman movement, and accelerating the step of the victory of the war of resistance against Japan. On the other hand, due to the limitations of the times, the developmental process of woman education in the Anti-Japanese base areas was slow and short of coherence in teaching contents as well as organization in teaching staff, but its historical value is worthy of recognition. Finally, this treatise, combined with the background of the times, summarizes the historical value and enlightenment of woman education in the Anti-Japanese base areas for contemporary woman education. Taking history as a mirror, the research of woman education in the Anti-Japanese base areas will help to promote a further study of the woman education in the new era.
