With the development of society and the trend of global economy, we have attached much more importance to English teaching. Meanwhile, modern educational technology and philosophy also exert great impact on the traditional classroom teaching in the higher vocational colleges. As the representative of the new approach of learning, the formation of new teaching and learning model "flipped classroom" has attracted more and more attention.This study intends to investigate whether the application of flipped classroom is effective in teaching oral English in higher vocational colleges. Specifically, two questions are raised:1) Can flipped classroom teaching influence higher vocational college students’attitude towards oral English learning? 2) Is flipped classroom teaching able to improve the oral English proficiency of higher vocational college students? 80 students are divided into two classes:the experimental class and the control class. Students in the experimental class are taught with the flipped classroom teaching method in their college oral English class. Students in the control class are taught with their former teaching way. The experiment lasts for a term. Questionnaire, oral per-test, post test and interview are the research instruments. The data are analyzed and calculated by SPSS 13.0.The results of the study show that the proper use of the flipped classroom teaching in college oral English class can improve students’attitude towards oral English and the ability of speaking English.Some suggestions are put forward concerning the application of the flipped classroom teaching in college oral English class. As to the teacher, they need to select or design appropriate on-line courses for the students to study before and after the class. They should also organize some proper teaching activities in class. As to the students, they need to self-regulate themselves and be responsible for their independent study.
