With the development of information technology,the flipped classroom is seen as a new approach to college English teaching reform.With good teaching results achieved in the flipped classroom abroad,experts and researchers at home also begin to focus on the flipped classroom.They try to find out whether and how this teaching model can improve college English teaching effect.The English level of higher vocational college is generally poor,and the effect of flipped classroom teaching mode is worth exploring.This study was aimed to further explore the effective teaching methods and effective reform ways of English in higher vocational colleges.The two research questions addressed in the present study were:(1)whether the flipped classroom teaching mode can effectively improve students' English learning performance;(2)Whether the flipped classroom teaching mode can improve students' attitude towards English learning.The subjects participating in the present study were Grade 2017 non-English major undergraduates of two classes from Youth College of Political Science of Inner Mongolia Normal University.Before the experiment,both of the Experimental Class and the Control Class were required to take the pre-test of English Proficiency Test.During the experiment,the flipped classroom teaching model was applied to the Experimental Class while the traditional teaching model was applied to the Control Class.After a whole semester's experiment,both of the Experimental Class and the Control Class were required to participate in the post-test examination and Questionnaire.Thus,the quantitative data of pre-and-post experiment can be collected.Finally,independent sample t-tests and paired sample t-tests were conducted to determine the differences between the two groups in English learning achievement and learning attitude by SPSS 22.0.The experimental results showed that:(1)under the flipped classroom teaching mode,college students' English learning performance has improved significantly;(2)under the flipped classroom teaching mode,students generally perceived that learning interest has been improved,and most students can accept the teaching mode to be continued in next semester.The flipped classroom teaching mode is more effective than the traditional teaching mode in improving college students' English learning performance.Based on these findings,some suggestions are proposed for college English teaching reform and further application of the flipped classroom teaching model.For college English reform,the suggestions are as follows: developing awareness of college English reform,creating better environment of learning English,realizing the change of teachers' roles,developing learners' cooperative and critical thinking ability and improving learners' autonomous ability.For further application of the flipped classroom,the suggestions are as follows: setting up instructional strategies for the flipped classroom teaching model and setting up evaluation mode for the flipped classroom teaching model.
