| This report is based on the translation of Essays on Character and Opportunity in the Center on Children and Families of Brookings Institution. It mainly introduces the relationship between character and opportunity and the factors which influence the formation of character. The purpose of this practice is to provide further references for some related translation.This report includes three major parts – introduction, case analysis and conclusion. The introduction presents the language style, the nature of the task and the preparation before translation. In the case analysis part, it involves the word translation, sentence translation and paragraph translation. In word translation, the writer uses different methods to solve the problems, such as the generalization of proper nouns, conversion and omission. In sentence translation, the attributive clauses and passive voice are mainly discussed. The writer uses fronting, postposition, converting the passive into active and subjectless sentence to solve the difficulties. In the next part, the writer uses two ways to make the translation more fluent and logical, namely conjunctions addition and logic analysis. The conclusion part summarizes the writer’s translation process and the outstanding quality an excellent translator equips as well as a reflection on the weaknesses in translation in order to make the future work more smoothly.It is hoped that this report can deepen the understanding of some related translation and be helpful for such translation activities. |
